Settling back into reality

E3 and the crunch before it, is now properly over... I'm spent today doing nothing, I'll make some proper blog post tommorrow I think, I'm currently too lazy to even do that.

Tommorow time to start being constructive and do something outside work. One obvious thing is buying a new phone as I lost my 1st day in LA. So I've also lost everybody numbers so expect emails/IM asking for them once I decided on a new one.

Kaetsu Japanese Day

Just got back from Kaetsu center Japanese day.
Got to try my hand at calligraphy and some Japanese artwork... I passed up origami, as my hands aren't exactly dexterous while in my hand thingies..
Got to meet up with wyrdness as well, which was really nice.

We also brought some Japanese sweets :-) Hello Kitty strawberry pretzels and muscat gummies. Yum Yum

Dentists and Meh

This morning I had the fun of a root canal. Its aching a little bit now but then its nothing more than a minor irratation compared with my legs (damn cold...).

Lots of my friends are feeling discontented with there jobs... its primarly I think that even though we work in a so called creative industry, but most of the time for most of the people it isn't... And unfortately the better and more creative you are, it seems the less actually creative jobs you get... Most of the people who I think would make good designers and artists aren't...

I know exactly the same feeling, I really only became a programmer to make (i.e. design) computer games but never been given the chance, because I can work out the GPU registers or write a memory system... In a way because I'm good at something I don't really like doing, I don't get to do what I want (and think I'll be good at...)

The future is smaller teams of better happy people than huge teams of unhappy people doing average jobs because they have no passion...

Its time I really did something...

Was hpping to play games all day

I brought Shadow of the Colossus (and Ico) yesters, and was looking forward to a good hard day of game playing... well an hour of playing, scrapped that idea. I posted why on my other blog http://rattie.demon.co.uk/?p=48, but now I'm a bit bored and disappointed, after all the hype I was expecting something really good and instead I got one of the most frustrating game I've played for a while... Grrr

Of course its possible I just wasn't in the mood, so for the rest of the day I'm going to work on some of my home game stuff, probably do a bit of Japanese practice and chill out to some tunes (not that, that is unusual, I always have music on in the background but I'm going for a nice chilled Marley feel at the mo...)

Nobody seems to be talking on IM either which just compounds my boredom... think I'm feeling quite jolly just with nobody around to be 'jolly' with... I did think of using the LJ Mood 'bouncy' but then saying that nobody is around to 'bounce' with might be taking the wrong way ;-)

Time for two blogs?

I barely ever use this blog, cos I have another here rattie.demon.co.uk, however I'm starting to notice it might be best to have 2, one for the unwashed masses and one a little more private. Given only a few people who even know this exists (cos I never use it). This can be the more private one... I mainly used this to see my friends blogs, so it makes sense to also use it for more informal stuff thats also more friendly.

If your wondering why, its cos the post I made on my other blog (about memory management with the magic PS3 word) got several thousand different viewers in one night! Thats a little too public for those little personal things that my blog was also intended for...

So programming/work and other stuff there, and idle non computer related musing here is what I'm thinking...

Well I'll see anyway... of course the first things I need is to figure how to change this journal into something that doesn't look like arse...

Hmm long time no speak

Made one entry and never made another, until now...

Took me a little while to be less self conscious and never really like the idea of using somebody else server (LJ), so when I did start blogging I did it here http://rattie.demon.co.uk

Now oddly that`s syndicated here http://www.livejournal.com/users/deancalver but not by me... Don`t ask me who I blame magic pixies.

Now thinking of comments on a friends lj and realised was a bit stoopid not to make a post here... so here it is.

Wonder if I could syndicate my blog here to make life easier...

I find a certain humour that the live journal spell check doesn`t recognise blog as a valid word :-D

New

This is new...

Never had a personal journal.

Have a more professional one over at http://www.beyond3d.com but this is going to take some getting used to.

I guess the need to talk in a journal, is due to the 'fun' stuff going on at work. Argonaut Games (who own Just Add Monsters who I work for) are having difficulties, so nobody really knows whats going on... Find out in the next month or so.

I also have an exam next week, (I do Open University which is a correspondence course). Exam is on Astrophysics, not to worried to be honest. Exams I can handle, the wierd bit is this is the last one. After that (if I pass) I will have completed a 2.1 Hons Bsc. I've been doing it for the last 5 years or so, and in that time have shipped something like 6 games, worked for 6 games companies (I think), the OU has allows been something to take up my spare time know its over I'm at a loose end.
